“Music in the Lobby” Program

Doctors Hospital at Renaissance is actively seeking musical volunteers for the upcoming holiday season. Music in the lobby is very welcoming and allows patients, families and staff to experience the healing value of music.

Volunteers provide a warm, comforting, friendly, and calm atmosphere through the process of playing live instrumental music for patients and families in the main hospital lobby.

Interested musicians must supply his or her own instrument. Guitar, harp, portable keyboard, string instrument, or woodwind instrument is acceptable at the approval of the Volunteer Coordinator. Please select music choices that can be played at a volume that will be soothing and respect conversations that are occurring in the waiting areas and at both our Admissions and Information Desks.

Congratulations to the RGV Band Directors Hall of Fame Class of 2011-2012, Susan Diaz and Joe Menchaca. Also, congratulations to Hugo and Oralia Gonzalez, recipients of the James R. Murphy Award. Everyone is invited to the Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held April 28, 2012.

Annual Pigskin competition to be held in La Joya

Every fall, Rio Grande Valley high school marching bands prepare for the annual Pigskin Jubilee, which will be held this year at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the La Joya Independent School District Stadium.

The marching bands compete against one another in the state University Interscholastic League (UIL) contest in an effort to advance to the next level of competition.

For more information on the high school bands competing, contact your school district.

Artist Spotlight: The Taalbi Brothers

We were first wow’ed by Bronson (17) and Preston (15) when we saw them performing on Santa Monica‘s 3rd Streetpromenade last year. Since then, we’ve been eagerly following their success and progress as they fine-tune their unique flamenco rock style and techniques. In recent news, the Taalbi Brothers’ single “Freestyle” was featured in the season finale of the Emmy-winning television series Breaking Bad! Not a bad achievement for their first song ever written.
